What is EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility)?
EPR or Extended Producer Responsibility is a policy of transferring responsibility for the environmental impact of a product to the seller.
In line with the principles of the carbon tax, EPR is a concept where producers and importers of a product bear a significant degree of responsibility for the environmental impacts of their products throughout the product’s life cycle.

In practice, manufacturers and distributors pay a fee into a chosen dual system that covers the collection, sorting and recycling of their sales packaging. The fee depends on the weight, type of material and volume of sales packaging put into circulation.
All producers and distributors whose packaging ends up as waste at private final customers must include this packaging in the dual system.
EPR in practice – Dual System
The Dual System ensures that packaging subject to recycling obligations can be properly collected from private end customers and sorted.
