Overview of established and upcoming mandatory waste charges for foreign sellers in France.
According to the first sentence of Article 16, Decree No. 2020-1725 of December 29, 2020, the French Extended Producer Responsibility or REP is introduced on January 1, 2021, similar to the German market, covering several sectors (packaging, batteries and accumulators, electrical and electronic equipment EEE and paper).
You can obtain your unique EPR (REP) identification number for each relevant product category through the French Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME).
The registration itself takes place in the SYDREP register (https://syderep.ademe.fr/public/home) under ADEME.
The effective date of the new rules varies from January 1, 2021 to January 1, 2023, depending on the relevant provisions. For most sectors, the REP entered into force on 1 January 2022.
Lamps, refrigerators, air conditioners, monitors, washing machines, etc. are all within the scope of recycling under the DEEE Act
It includes all packaging materials of consumables or household products
Alkaline batteries, dry batteries, disposable lithium batteries, button batteries, NI-MH batteries, lithium-ion batteries and other batteries covered by the Battery Act
